MAKER MILE

MAKER MILE

About the project

Maker Mile is a project born with the goal of valorizing the different crafts that contribute in defining the identity of a place.
Not only Maker Mile seeks to enhance the knowledge and techniques of the craft activities, revealing all the talented craftsmen and their valuable work. But also to reactivate and put them in contact with the current realities related to design, architecture, branding, digitization and much more.
Thanks to an open and contemporary attitude, Maker Mile is revealing all the talented craftsmen and their valuable work, through installations, debates, workshops and events.
The ambition of Maker Mile is to be an itinerant project in continuous research and expansion: Venice represents the appropriate context from where to start, as it is a lieu extremely rich in unique and centuries-old crafts, but also delicate and important to preserve.

IN THE MAKING – about the exhibition 2021

The In the Making exhibition will be held until November 21st, 2021 at Palazzo Bembo, as a local presence within the architecture and design event organized by the European Cultural Center. The goal of the exhibition, curated by Ilaria Marcatelli, is to give importance to the creative process and what implies the artisan creation. The characters of this story are the makers, their hands, the tools helping them, and the botteghe (laboratories).
Never showing the final object, In the Making also invites the visitor to fantasize about what each artisan could create and come full circle with the stories presented. The photographs by Lorenzo Scarpa Basadonna and Matteo Losurdo highlight the wonder of the spaces, the peculiarity of the tools and the charm of the skilled hands of eight artisans with different specializations. These are Gabriele Gmeiner, Giuliana Longo, Fernando Masone, Gloria D’Este (Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua), Daniela Levera, Stefano Morasso, Marisa Convento, Piero Dri.
In parallel, the Maker Mile video presented at Palazzo Mora, in Strada Nuova, offers an overview of the most precious crafts of the lagoon, immersing in the unique atmosphere of the artisans’ workshops.
