Venice Design Week (VDW) encompasses many events that take place in Venice in October. Venice Design Week works with Museums and many institutions in town to coordinate the week of design in Venice. Designers and companies from all over the world are invited to take part in exhibitions, contets, and special events. Visitors to the Venice Design Week can visit exhibitions of contemporary design and at the same time explore the hidden side of Venice, discovering how ancient objects were designed and decorated. The VDW team organizes unique visits both inside and outside museums.
Venice Design Week was founded in 2010 with the goal of enriching the relationship between design, arts and crafts. For many centuries, Venice has been recognised as an important port where goods and ideas were exchanged with the east. Merchandise of all kinds arrived in Venice to be transported across Europe. Many machines (and some bizarre ideas) were patented and made in Venice. October has become the month dedicated to design, giving locals and tourists alike the opportunity to visit the Venice Design Week and at the same time the Biennale of Art or Architecture. Exhibitions and events are spread out all over the city. The VDW map helps visitors discover all the exhibitions, museums, workshops, and artists’ studios, offering a thrilling combination of exploring visions of the future and diving into the past.
