Petra MohylovaPrague, Czech Republic

Autodidact.
Contemporary jewellery design is a method to her. Common and omnipresent objects inspire her. The driving engine behind her work is the exploration of the relationship between traditional and new and its potential on the interdisciplinary edge of other visual art forms. Petra’s one-of-a-kind pieces are held in collections in the USA, Brazil, UK, Israel, Italy, Romania, and Portugal.

(NON)PERMISSIBLE TRAnSGRESSION, gioiello di Mohylova Petra

Title: (Non)Permissible Transgression

It asks the question to what extent and when (if ever) going beyond set norms and accepted rules of the time is permissible. The brooch itself is a 3D hollow form made using traditional metalsmithing techniques, chasing, repousse, and cold-enamelling.

Materials: brass, cold enamel, glass, pearls

“As the transformation of a pearl starts with an infinitesimal grain of sand, so does our rebirth start with a spark of light in our heart.”
Her pieces are a continuous creative experimentation, a creative ReBIRTH. One of her main goals is to push the perception of the medium itself – in this case the specific form of a brooch – further, in both content and presentation.
Except for working in very small one-of-a-kind series, her main tools of achieving the desired result is the use of basic colours and simplified bold shapes to convey the feeling of graphic prints. The driving engine of her work is exploration of the relationship, connections, conflicts and symbiosis between traditional jewellery and its potential on the interdisciplinary edge of other visual art forms.
